Assembled everything and leveled the bed no problem.  When I go to print from both the card and from the USB attached to a Mac or a PC the printer shuts down and restarts.  The screen goes blank and then comes up to the first page.  What is happeninjg?

  2. I haven't had this problem, and i know it sounds dumb, but are the extruder wires in the correct locations? Can you home all the steppers with no problem? It could be that the power supply may be the problem if when the machine draws current to heat the extruder, it restarts.

It does sound like a power supply issue. Try just preheat nozzle for PLA, through the menu, and see if that does anything?

Nothing sounds dumb.  I rechecked the wires and all is correct.  I have a DC power supply that is adjustable so I set it to 12 volts 5 amps and connected it.  Tried the preheat and same thing happens.  What I did notice is that when just before preheat it is drawing 1 amp.  When it goes to preheat the aperage does not change.  It sould increase a bit if not alot.  Could this mean a bad heater?

Can you try preheating with the heater wires disconnected from the board? If there's a short in the heater element, this would isolate it.

When I disconnect the heater wires it does not restart.  Looks like a short in the hot end.
